ECISD_SB_ENVIRO.JPG (52271 bytes) To the left is the "Message from the School Board President" as it appeared in the ECISD School Bell Times Winter 1999-2000 issue.  To the casual observer it would look as though our School Board is diligently working for betterment of the entire ECISD community.  What is missing from this attempt to tout the School Board's safety and health accomplishments is the fact that within the bounds of the ECISD BFI plans to triple the size of their landfill.  I think everyone would agree that this planned expansion is every bit a health and safety concern as the wastewater treatment facility or the traffic around CPS power plants.   Perhaps if the ECISD was not financially benefiting from BFI there would be some mention of the expansion.

As we all know, the ECISD School Board signed an agreement with BFI to silence any board opposition to the expansion.  In exchange the ECISD is paid over $50,000 a year and receives other discounts and perks from BFI.

It is worrisome to see the landfill expansion so blatantly omitted from this district sponsored message from the Board President--especially when using the closing "God Bless".
