MEG February 1 Meeting at St. Jerome's Church

This is a quick summary--please forgive the absence of some names.  I will fill them in as I receive more meeting information.  Thanks!

A very special thanks to everyone who braved the cold, rain, and slick roads to come to St. Jerome's church.  You made this meeting one of the best ones yet!

The meeting started a little late because MEG officers were meeting with their legal staff.  BFI had made an offer regarding the expansion.  According to Don, once again BFI made no real concessions and, as is usual with BFI, their contract required that MEG members no longer protest the expansion.  We were also grateful to see Channel 4 (Cable 3) and the Express-news present to cover the meeting.

County Commissioner, Tommy Adkisson, attended the meeting and made several good points:

He also stated that he has made an invitation to Judge Cyndi Krier to join the opposition.

MEG is happy to announce that TC Calvert has joined the fight.  His presence and experience in these matters will only boost the opposition and send the message that the opposition is gaining more momentum.  TC reminded us that we are doing this for our children.  He also brought two inspirational speakers.  They each spoke about their experiences with opposing the Mitsumi plant on the east side and the their battle with a trucking company.  Their main point was that success is possible.

MEG officer Colette presented a short historical editorial on the Tessman Road landfill.  You can read it online by clicking here.  We also had an emotional testimonial by one of our members who reminded us that this fight is for our kids.   The legacy we leave for them effects their lives.

The meeting was over by 8:30pm.  Everyone was impressed by the turn-out.  MEG officers were really energized by the commitment of those who turned out.  MEG definitely has taken this protest to a new level.
